The Ervin Spot Check Kit was developed to allow for a fast / easy way to evaluate the blast machine’s abrasive work-mix.

Abrasive work-mixes play an important role is productivity and cleaning efficiency. This easy to use kit helps determine the “balance” of the abrasive work-mix as it wears smaller throughout its useful life. New abrasive additions are determined by the results of work-mix conditions and life cycles of abrasive.

This Kit will provide the necessary information to gain the maximum benefits from AMASTEEL and AMACAST Products.

Our Test Machine Is The World Standard

The Ervin Test Machine was engineered and developed to provide a universal method to evaluate the quality of metal abrasives.

Every metal abrasive producer in the world owns these machines and uses them to assess quality and consistency of the abrasive they produce.

For the end user, the Test Machine results can assist in making the best abrasive selection in insure efficiency and the lowest possible cost in production use.

The Ervin Test Machine will measure both the Durability (life) and Transmitted Energy (impact) of the abrasive, which are the two most important measures of value and quality.

The Ervin Test Machine is the only device designated by SAE for the evaluation of metal abrasives. Many large users of metallic abrasives use The Ervin Test Machine in their own laboratories in insure the quality of their abrasive is consistent and reliable.

Energy Transfer - Speed of Cleaning

Blast cleaning is an operation in which the work surface is pounded by successive impacts of flying abrasive particles. This impact energy of the abrasive is related to the mass and velocity of the particle being thrown. When the kinetic energy in a particle of abrasive is expended on the work surface, the contaminant is loosened and removed. Thus, the greater the impact being delivered per particle, the greater the speed of cleaning. AMACAST’s greater mass / density delivers more power to the surface improving the cleaning rates and lowering the abrasive consumption costs.

An efficient abrasive work-mix contains a balanced distribution of large, medium and small particles. This distribution is constantly undergoing change because of abrasive deterioration caused by repeated impact with the work surface. Maintaining a proper balance can be difficult with short-lived abrasive because of its rapid breakdown and removal from the system. These fluctuations in the size distribution directly affect both surface finish and productivity.

AMACAST’s superior durability provides a more consistent size distribution in the operating “work-mix” by remaining in the new condition long after other abrasives have fractured and downsized from blasting.
