Roof Raising Ceremony

2013.07.22 - Ervin Amasteel Roof Raising Ceremony

Ervin Amasteel celebrates the roof raising of the new Glaubitz Production Facility.

The new 10,000 square metre Glaubitz production facility for steel abrasives has risen from a green field site to the roof raising ceremony in just six months.

American based Ervin Industries Group topped out its new plant in Glaubitz on 8 July 2013 (circle Meissen). Saxony's Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich, U.S. General Mark J. Powell, Mayor of Glaubitz Lutz Thiemig and numerous other guests were invited to the ceremony by John E. Pearson, President of Ervin Industries, and plant manager Mike Schwartz.

If everything goes according to plan, the production facility for high carbon steel abrasives, used in surface cleaning, will be added to the Glaubitzer industrial area stockpile at the end of the year.

The 30 million euros investment, by American family owned Ervin Industries, in the East German location will initially create 36 new jobs. Later, the workforce will be expanded to 70 and by 2020 to 90 employees.

Ervin blasting materials are used in the steel, automotive and aerospace industries for the removal of Scale and rust from metal parts.

Ervin Industries have three plants in the U.S. where they are the leader in this sector.

Currently Europe is supplied with Ervin material from a facility in Britain. In the future Glaubitz will supply Central and Eastern European regions with the annual production of about 60,000 tonnes of abrasives.

The company's president, John E. Pearson, chose the location because the region offers a central position to the local automotive and steel industry and for the close proximity to many customers.

Saxony's Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich thanked Ervin Industries for selecting the site and presented some further advantages for the region. ‘We have here one of the most important foundry locations in Europe, with distinguished educational excellence and competence from the people of Saxony. There are more than 100 other American investors who have also come to appreciate the area.’

Matched to the currently held free trade talks between the EU and the U.S., Consul General Mark J. Powell, commented on the economic importance of positive linkages between countries on political relations: ‘The construction of this Work is not only good for Ervin, the region and the customers, but also to the relationship between the economic powerhouses Germany and the USA.'
