Committed to Excellence

For Over 100 Years

The Beginning

John Ervin received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Illinois and started his career at John Deere in East Moline. In 1920, he purchased a Michigan foundry and founded Ervin Industries, where he invented and perfected the manufacturing of steel shot and grit for the abrasive industry.

Through his efforts, Mr. Ervin revolutionized the metal abrasives industry with new processes, techniques, applications, and the first metallic blast cleaning abrasives

John Ervin filed his patent application “Method of Disintegrating Metal into Shotting” in early 1938. One year later, the United States Patent Office made it official and the patent for the process of manufacturing steel shot and grit found its place in history. After more than a century, Mr. Ervin’s ideas and innovations still drive the Ervin manufacturing process to be the World Leader for Steel Abrasives.
Team pride runs deep at Ervin Technologies.
